Baking With Samantha
Sammy and I had some rare one on one time today while the big kids were at school and the baby was napping. Normally, I'd read her about 50 books...that kid LOVES books! But today I wanted to do something a little different, so we made cookies, just me and her. She had a grand time dumping all the goodies into the bowl. She really had the hang of helping by the time we were ready to put the vanilla in.
It was a brand new bottle of vanilla. I unscrewed the cap, peeled off the foil, and turned away to throw the foil in the garbage. Just then I heard "I help, mama", and then...as if in slow motion...I saw her take the new bottle of vanilla and pour nearly the entire thing into the bowl. I was able to snatch it out of her hand before it was completely gone (see that mostly empty bottle of vanilla in her left hand?).
I just looked at her, mouth agape. She was so proud of herself...kept saying "help! help!" I didn't have the heart to scold her for it. I just dumped out the bowl of batter and started over :) Thankfully, I still had enough vanilla to still make cookies!
