God's Unexpected Ways: A Joke
My last post about post-partum depression reminds me of a joke I heard once. It goes something like this:
It had been raining for days, and the river's waters finally came up over it's banks and threatened the nearby homes. The officials sent out a warning to evacuate.
One man said "No, I will not evacuate. The Lord will save me."
The flood waters rose. The man had to go to the 2nd story of his home to avoid getting wet. A rescue boat came to get him. The man stuck his head out the window and said, "No, the Lord will rescue me."
The flood waters rose even more. The man went to his roof and waited on the Lord. Another boat came by to get him, but still he refused. "The Lord will rescue me!" He said.
The flood waters continued to rise, until the man was standing on his tip-toes on his roof. A helicopter came to pluck him out of the flood, but STILL he refused. "I'm waiting on a miracle from the Lord. I have faith. God will rescue me!"
Finally, the man was struggling in the water with no sight of help. He cried out to God, "Lord, where are you? I've been waiting faithfully for you, why won't you save me?"
God answered, "What do you mean, 'where am I?'?? I sent you two boats and a helicopter!"
